Principal

Mrs. Janet Murphy is the principal at W. A. Bass Middle School. She is from Cincinnati, Ohio. Mrs. Murphy is married to Jackie Murphy and has two children, Candace and Jackie Jr. Both of Mrs. Murphy’s children are the product of the Metropolitan Davidson County School System. Candace graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Candace is presently completing her MBA at Trevecca Nazarene and is preparing to continue her Doctor of Dentistry Degree at Meharry Medical College. Jackie Jr. is a senior at the University of Tennessee Knoxville as an Accounting Major with a minor in business.

Mrs. Murphy graduated from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Physical Education and Recreation K-12. She attended Trevecca Nazarene College and received a degree in Administration and Supervision K-12.

She is a member of Lake Providence Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Top Ladies of Distinction where she is the Co-Advisor. Mrs. Murphy won Teacher of the Year in 1991 and won “Educator of the Year” for The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc in May of 2006. She has served on several committees for the Metropolitan School District such as the District Strategic Plan, Bus Discipline, etc.

Janet Murphy comes to W. A. Bass from Charlotte Park Elementary School where she was the principal for four years. She brings to W. A. Bass a Plethora of energy, knowledge and organizational skills. Mrs. Murphy believes all “Children and can Learn”. She greets every student with her philosophy that “We Are Family”.

Mrs. Murphy enjoys spending time with her family, working with children, boating, traveling, and shopping.
